Find Freedom in Christ from Overexercise with Nicole Speeney
Today, we’re diving into the sensitive yet powerful topic of movement, from a blessing to a burden. But more than that, how we can get back to it being a blessing by learning to find freedom in Christ.
Excessive exercise can feel like an impossible, daunting task to break free from, but Nicole Speeney has walked this path personally and professionally as a Registered Dietitian.
If you’ve felt the pressure to earn your worth through workouts or struggled with anxiety around rest and movement…this episode is for you!
In this conversation, we’ll define what excessive exercise is, how the enemy tries to derail us with comparison, and how your relationship with movement can shift from burdensome to healthy.
In this episode, we cover:
What is considered excessive exercise
Behavioral, physiological, and emotional signs that can indicate excessive exercise
A problem to look out for with external tracking devices
How Nicole’s D1 collegiate career guided her on this path as a dietitian
What high achievers should look out for with exercise and movement
The process of grieving an old identity to make space for the new
The lack of support for athletes transitioning out of sport
What’s really under the struggle with food and movement
Practical faith-filled tools to help you shift your relationship with movement
How the enemy tries to derail us with comparison and what to do about it
How to balance activity and rest as a part of spiritual stewardship
Freedom does not mean giving up on movement. It means reclaiming it as the gift that it is!
“If you are not intentionally giving your body the rest that it needs, your body will rest when it's not convenient for you."- Nicole Speeney.
Remember, you do not have to do this alone. Freedom from overexercise is possible through Christ's grace. And movement can become an act of worship. If you're on this journey or you want to share your story, reach out! We’re here to walk alongside you.
