Frequently Asked Questions
What does FINDINGbalance® do?
FINDINGbalance® is a Christ-centered nonprofit that provides non-clinical, biblically grounded resources to help women find freedom from eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image struggles.
We offer practical tools and spiritual support to guide women toward healing and identity in Christ. We’re not a treatment center. We’re a grace-filled place for women to begin or deepen their healing journey with Jesus at the center.
Who does FINDINGbalance® serve?
FINDINGbalance® serves women seeking Christ-centered eating disorder support, as well as those navigating disordered eating and body image struggles. We also provide resources for loved ones - family, friends, supporters, leaders, and individuals - who want to better understand how to walk alongside someone on the journey to healing. Whether you're personally struggling or supporting someone who is, you're not alone. Our Christ-centered recovery tools and community are here to help you experience hope, connection, and lasting transformation in Jesus.
Do I have to be a Christian to benefit from FINDINGbalance® programs?
Not at all! While everything we offer is rooted in biblical truth and a Christ-centered perspective, you do not have to be a Christian to explore our resources or participate in our programs.
Many women come to FINDINGbalance® at different points in their spiritual journey, or with questions about faith altogether. Whether you're curious, skeptical, or simply seeking hope and healing, you're welcome here. Our heart is to create a safe, grace-filled space where you can take the next step toward freedom, wherever you’re starting from.
Is FINDINGbalance® affiliated with a specific denomination?
No, FINDINGbalance® is not affiliated with a single denomination. We are a Protestant Christian ministry rooted in biblical truth and committed to helping people find freedom in Christ. Our doctrinal beliefs include:
The Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God.
There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, without sin, who died on the cross as atonement for our sins, was buried, rose again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and now intercedes on our behalf.
The Holy Spirit indwells, sanctifies, and empowers every believer in Jesus Christ.
Humanity was created in the image of God, fell into sin in Adam, and cannot save itself from sin or addiction.
Salvation is a free gift of God, given by grace through faith in Christ alone.
Do you offer clinical support, one-on-one care, or eating disorder treatment?
No. We are a non-clinical, Christ-centered nonprofit ministry that provides biblically grounded resources and community support for those navigating food and body image struggles. While we don’t replace professional treatment, we offer tools that can complement or accompany it, such as devotionals, online courses, a podcast, virtual prayer gatherings, and our Hello, Freedom discipleship community.
For those in need of medical or therapeutic care, we encourage seeking help from a licensed provider or treatment center, and we recommend searching for Christ-centered professionals through our Christian Treatment Finder website.
Are there any clinicians on staff at FINDINGbalance®?
Not at this time. Our team is made up of women who have experienced freedom through FINDINGbalance®’s Lasting Freedom curriculum and other Christ-centered resources. Each team member now uses that lived experience to walk alongside others on their own healing journeys. While we’re not clinicians, we’re passionate about offering biblically grounded tools, encouragement, and community support rooted in the hope of Jesus.
Do you offer scholarships?
We understand that finances can be a barrier for those seeking help with food and body image struggles. By God’s provision, we’re able to offer a limited number of partial scholarships for our Lasting Freedom course. If you'd like more information or to apply, click here.
Thanks to a generous grant, we’re able to offer partial scholarships for membership in our Hello, Freedom community. To learn more or inquire about availability, email us at admin@findingbalance.com.
Do you offer financial aid for eating disorder treatment?
FINDINGbalance® is a non-clinical nonprofit ministry, and we do not provide financial assistance for eating disorder treatment or professional care. We do know of several organizations that may be able to assist with financial aid. To learn more, email us at admin@findingbalance.com.
Does FINDINGbalance® offer Christian weight loss plans or diets?
No. We believe in a non-diet, “all things in moderation” approach rooted in intuitive eating. We do not promote specific eating plans, weight loss programs, diets, supplements, or food trends, ever.
Our focus is on helping you break free from food fixation by learning to trust the body God designed. True freedom isn’t found in following rules, it’s found in grace, wisdom, and walking in step with Jesus.
What is disordered eating?
Disordered eating includes a wide range of unhealthy thoughts and behaviors around food, exercise, and body image that may not meet the clinical criteria for an eating disorder—but still impact a person’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
t can look like food guilt, rigid rules, obsessive body-checking, punishing exercise, or tying your worth to your weight. Many women in the FINDINGbalance® community didn’t realize they were struggling until those patterns began stealing their peace, joy, and connection with God.
You don’t need a diagnosis to begin healing. Through Christ-centered recovery, you can renew your mind with biblical truth and find lasting food freedom in Christ; no more striving, no more shame. You were made for freedom!
What is diet culture?
Diet culture is the belief system that equates thinness with health, beauty, and worth. It promotes restrictive eating, weight loss at all costs, and the idea that certain bodies are more valuable than others. This mindset often leads to anxiety around food, negative body image, and disordered eating.
At FINDINGbalance®, we believe diet culture is a tool of our enemy, Satan - a deceptive force that has crept into even our churches, distorting how we view health, worth, and identity. We are on a Christ-centered mission to expose these lies, awaken The Church, and reclaim the ground the enemy has tried to steal. True freedom is found not in changing our bodies, but in knowing who we are in Jesus.
I’m afraid to admit I’m struggling with eating. What if others judge me, especially if it’s not something people can see?
You’re not alone. Many women feel the same way, especially when their struggle isn’t outwardly visible. Eating and body image issues often come with a heavy sense of shame and fear about what others might think, including family, friends, or even church communities.
But here’s the truth: God does not shame you. He invites you into freedom. Your pain matters, even if no one else sees it. At FINDINGbalance®, we understand how hard it is to speak up, and we’ve created a safe, non-judgmental space where you can begin to process your struggle, at your own pace.
Jesus didn’t come for the ones who “have it all together.” He came for the hurting, the hidden, and the heavy-hearted. You don’t have to pretend. You just have to come.
No one knows about my food and body image struggles. How do you expect me to trust strangers in a virtual community?
That’s a completely valid concern, and one we hear often. Trust takes time, especially when you’ve been carrying these struggles alone. We don’t expect you to open up right away. In fact, many women in our community start by just listening and observing.
Our prayer groups and Hello, Freedom community are safe, Christ-centered space where you can go at your own pace. You're never pressured to share more than you're comfortable with. But here’s what we’ve learned: unhealthy habits thrive in isolation, while healing grows in community.
As trust builds, shame loses its grip. And with support, prayer, and encouragement, real freedom becomes possible. You're not alone, and you don't have to heal alone either.
I hate my body and feel so ashamed of it. Isn’t Jesus disappointed in me? Doesn’t He want me to lose weight before I can use my gifts and talents for His Kingdom?
Sweet friend, no. Jesus is not disappointed in you. He sees you, loves you, and values you right now, as you are, not some future version of you that’s smaller or more “put together.” The shame you feel is real, but it’s not from Him. Shame is the enemy’s tool to keep you stuck, but Jesus came to set you free.
Your body does NOT disqualify you from being used by God. In fact, the very place you feel most broken may be the place where His glory shines brightest. You were created with purpose and gifted by God to serve His Kingdom, not once you’ve lost weight, but as you are, right now.
He invites you to bring your whole self; body, mind, and spirit, into the light, where grace, healing, and freedom begin. You are not a disappointment. You are deeply loved, called, and already enough in Christ.
Be uplifted by this Old School Food Freedom podcast episode with Executive Director Chrissy Kirkman, as she unpacks 10 lies the enemy uses to keep us stuck in shame and striving, and speaks biblical truth over each one. With honesty and heart, Chrissy shares her own story and reminds us that freedom isn’t found in fixing our bodies, but in embracing the peace of God’s perfect design.
I don’t have an eating disorder… or at least I don’t think I have one. I’m not really sick enough to need treatment. Is FINDINGbalance for someone like me?
Yes, absolutely. Many of the women who connect with FINDINGbalance® feel the same way at first. You may not have a clinical diagnosis, but if food and body image feel like constant battles, or if your thoughts about eating, weight, or worth feel exhausting or overwhelming, you’re not alone, and you’re not disqualified from support.
You don’t have to wait until things get “bad enough” to seek help. Struggles with food come in many forms, and the enemy loves to use comparison and minimization to keep us stuck. But freedom is available to anyone who wants to walk in wholeness, peace, and identity in Christ.
Our non-clinical, Christ-centered resources are designed for women in all stages of the journey, whether you’re just becoming aware of unhealthy patterns or you’ve been struggling for years. And no matter where you are, you are worthy of care.
