Christ-Centered Somatic Eating Disorder Treatment with Tracy Brown

When you first hear the phrase “somatic treatment,” maybe you raise your eyebrow. But then you find yourself getting curious. Is this something that’s Christ-centered? Is God ok with this kind of approach?

The short answer… yes. And for the full answer (complete with scripture), we have trauma-informed dietitian Tracy Brown joining us again on the podcast!

This conversation was inspired by a listener who reached out to ask if we’d have Tracy back on the show. (We love hearing from you! More on that in a bit.)

If you find you’re wired to run treatment options or trending topics through that Jesus lens, this is for you! In this episode, Tracy shares what the “Triune Human” concept is all about, how to use our Jesus-led wisdom and discernment, and if it’s possible to find a Christ-centered, faith-based, and somatic-based treatment option for eating disorder recovery.

In this episode, we cover:

  • What is meant by “somatic-based treatment”

  • What the “triune human” is all about

  • What can make recovery easier

  • If it’s possible to pair Christ-centered and somatic-based treatments

  • Common fears Christians may have about somatic work

  • How to use Jesus-led wisdom and discernment with treatment options

  • An overview of external (5) and internal senses (3)

  • How a somatic-based, trauma-informed dietitian can be supportive during recovery

  • Why ignoring or overriding body cues (like hunger) gives us a feeling of safety

  • Ways to notice the enemy sneaking into marketing messages

  • Ways the Holy Spirit speaks through the body, not just the mind & emotions

  • Practical things to do to reconnect with the Lord in moments of struggle

Jesus honored the body. And He’s inviting you to live fully integrated! We hope you found hope and inspiration in this conversation.

“If we don't work with our bodies in this process, if we just stay in our heads, we don't feel safe in our bodies. If we get too reactive to whatever our bodies were doing, we get led by that versus the Spirit.” -Tracy Brown
