How is this program helpful for those with eating issues? By plugging into our program, you are joining others who are highly motivated to invest time and treasure into pursuing recovery. This will enhance your ability to develop healthy relationships with others as a key component of pursuing physical, emotional and spiritual development. You are also learning each week from experts and inspiring guests who will open your mind to new possibilities and a greater sense of hope and empowerment to pursue God’s plan for your life with increasing freedom in the area of eating/weight. Finally, our work is rooted and grounded in Christ-centered truths, which means you can release the burden of trying to fix everything yourself.

My issues aren’t that serious… is this really for me? If you have taken time to explore this program, then you likely already know the answer to that question. Basically, if you recognize that food and weight take a lot of brain space for you, then this program will help change that in a more positive direction. Also, prior to being placed in one of our groups, you will need to complete a 50-minute one-on-one consultation with a trained professional on our team. You will also be asked to complete three questionnaires designed to measure your eating attitudes, anxiety and depression, and general history and goals. All of this will help you – and us – determine whether this program is a fit for you at this time.
You talk a lot about the “Christ-centered” thing but I’m not a Christian. Does that mean this program is not for me? While the core principles of what you will be learning in the program are founded on Biblical truths, we welcome people of all faiths (or no faith) to join and see how the practical aspects impact your recovery journey. We are not here to force you to believe in Jesus. We just share the belief that faith in Christ is a powerful healing tool for many, and want to be an example of Christ’s love and grace in action.
What is your statement of faith? We believe the Bible to be the inspired, authoritative Word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ; that he was born of a virgin, knew no sin, died on the cross as the atonement of our sins, was buried, descended into hell, and on the third day rose again, ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, interceding on our behalf. We believe in the Holy Spirit who indwells, sanctifies and empowers every believer in Jesus Christ. We believe that man was created in the image of God, fell into sin in Adam, and that now all human beings are born with a sinful nature and do not have the power to save themselves from sin, including addiction. And we believe that salvation is a free gift of God, provided by grace through faith in Christ alone.

MODULE-BASED LEARNING SYSTEM
Lasting Freedom provides you with a solid trajectory to leave eating issues behind for good. Our six-module system is intentional about starting with the most immediate felt-need (how to deal with food better), and creating a path to tackle other aspects that drive eating issues. An overview of the modules will be shared with you in your initial consultation.
How long is each module? Each module lasts 8 weeks, with an additional break week during certain parts of the year. Members must complete one to move on to the next. An additional Holiday Module is offered in November/December of each year.
Do I have to sign up for all 6 modules? While we hope that all our members will stick with the program for the full experience, we understand that not everyone is ready to make that commitment on the front end. Currently, cycles are offered one module at a time. If you’re new to Lasting Freedom, you’d be signing up just for Module 1. Following your successful completion of that module, you could then decide whether to proceed to the next level.
What is the minimum age to participate? We are currently serving women in their twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, sixties and even seventies! Eighteen is the minimum age to participate. We love the diversity of ages and look forward to offering a teen program soon.
Where do you stand regarding whether someone can actually ever be fully recovered? We believe that as fallen humans this side of heaven, all of us will struggle with various things until we leave this life for our eternal home. That said, 100% of our core team have personally experienced eating disorders and now live free from them. We are living proof that such freedom exists. To defend our freedom, we humbly recognize our need for grace while at the same time celebrating the freedom that is ours through the blood and power of Christ. We will be cheering you on toward that same freedom.
I am already in a recovery program. Should I do this one too? That is a great question! Our goal for you is balance. If you are already committed to a time-intensive recovery program, such as inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment, adding another thing may feel overwhelming right now. On the other hand, if you recognize that you need more than a weekly or bi-weekly counseling visit, are looking for something more Christ-centered, and/or are just now taking first steps toward finding help, then this is perfect for you. It is also a great tool to use before and after more intensive types of treatment. For example, we have some participants who joined prior to entering an inpatient facility, and are planning to plug back in when they get out. This is a great way to continue important momentum. When you sign up for your one-on-one consultation with us, we’ll help you evaluate whether this program is a good fit for you right now.
Is everything available online? Or do I have to attend things in person? You will do EVERYTHING in the program online. This makes it super easy for busy schedules, and also for our international friends to participate.
How do I participate in the online support group? You will be given a link to connect to your group each week via video chat. The platform we use is compatible with all screens/smartphones/devices and super easy to use.
When are group meetings? We plan to open two new groups in September. Final days/times to be determined but we will likely have a Tuesday at noon or 12:30pm CST group and another either Tuesday or Thursday evening around 7pm CST. Further information about times/days will be shared with you during your consultation.
What if I know I will have to miss one or two of those times due to previously scheduled plans? You may only miss one meeting during the first six weeks to maintain membership in the program. This maintains healthy group integrity and ensures you get the most out of your membership. If you already know you will miss more than one, we recommend waiting until another cycle when your schedule is more open.
I can’t do this cycle. When is the next one? This calendar will show you the cycles we have planned for the rest of this year.
How do I watch weekly webinars? Each week you’ll get a Videogram with everything you need:
I’m not a tech person – can you make it easy? Yep. Once you sign up you will be given instructions for how to get set up. It only takes a few moments and we’re here if you need help.
Do you offer any scholarships? Through a generous grant from the Kirsten Haglund Foundation, limited scholarship dollars are available for those in need. You can talk about this in your consultation. (*Scholarships are not offered for the initial one-on-one consultation.)
Do you have anything to do with the Weigh Down Workshop? No. Lasting Freedom is a program of FINDINGbalance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We offer a grace-based approach to those seeking to repair their relationship with food. We are not part of any other group, ministry or organization.
